About the Scheme

The Programme

The DUWIB mentorship scheme pairs student mentees with graduate mentors so that mentees can gain application tips, interview advice, industry insight and guidance during the internship/application process.

The scheme aims to foster long lasting relationships and should be mutually beneficial. The programme works so that mentees take charge of their own development by proactively organising regular conversation with their mentors. These conversations vary according to the different mentors and mentees, some prefer to email, Zoom, WhatsApp or meet face to face.

This year will have a renewed focus on ensuring mentor/mentee partnerships have different layers of compatibility and I have dedicated time to make sure I match you based on personal and professional factors in order to facilitate a successful working relationship. So please do take the time to fill in the hobbies and interests’ sections of the application forms.

Industries

Our mentors work in a diverse range of industries that include but are not limited to:

  • Law
  • Banking
  • PR/Marketing
  • Consulting

  • Teaching
  • Business Development
  • Insurance
  • Charity
  • Politics

Events

Attached to the scheme are a number of specific events. The first of which is the virtual programme launch in late October/early November. Following this I would like to introduce industry specific brunch’s where mentees can meet fellow students applying to roles in the same sectors and discuss the application process. I also plan for panel discussions, networking events and a second term ‘Lunch and Learn’ programme. If any mentors are interested in hosting an event, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me through women.inbusiness@durham.ac.uk
