About the Scheme

The Programme

The DUWIB mentorship scheme pairs student mentees with graduate mentors so that mentees can gain application tips, interview advice, industry insight and guidance during the internship/application process. The 2021/2022 academic year saw a large development of this network, with over 150 mentor-mentee pairings.

The scheme aims to foster long lasting relationships and should be mutually beneficial. The programme works so that mentees take charge of their own development by proactively organising regular conversation with their mentors.

Following on from the success of last year’s scheme and ensuring the differing layers of compatibility that contributed to its triumph, time will be dedicated making sure that mentees are matched based on personal and professional factors in order to facilitate a successful, long-lasting partnership. Therefore, please do take the time to fill in the hobbies and interests’ sections of the applications forms.

Our mentors work in a diverse range of industries that include but are not limited to:

  • Law
  • Banking
  • PR/Marketing
  • Consulting
  • Accounting
  • Asset Management
  • Wealth Management
  • Teaching
  • Business Development
  • Insurance
  • Charity
  • Politics

Alongside the scheme there are a number of specific events planned to ensure mentee development. The first of which being our mentorship launch event on Thursday 28th October 2021 where mentee success stories will be featured. Industry specific streams will be used for mentees to meet fellow students applying to roles in the same sectors and to discuss the application process. Panel discussions, networking events and a second term ‘Lunch and Learn’ programme will further facilitate the building of our student’s networks. If any mentors are interested in hosting an event, please do not hesitate to get in contact through women.inbusiness@durham.ac.uk.

To apply for a mentor, the mentorship scheme is now open until Friday 15th October.

I look forward to receiving your applications soon!
